OBITUARY:
TOT KILLED BY PASSING WAGON. Three Year-Old George Bowman Falls Under the Wheels. George, 3-year-old son of J. H. Bowman, living in the Rosedale district about six miles south of Salem, fell under a heavily loaded prune wagon yesterday and his head was crushed killing him almost instantly. The tot was riding in his express wagon with the 9-year-old son of A.H. Mooty, who lives on the farm of Dr. D. R. Miles, drawing him along the road. When the prune wagon, being hauled from the Roberts farm to the drier on the Miles place, came along the Mooty boy turned out to let it pass. The Bowman baby attempted to climb out of the wagon, and fell to the ground, the wagon wheel catching him before there was a chance to give warning or stop the team. Dr. Miles was called at once, but when he arrived found death had resulted almost immediately. Mrs. Margaret Bowman, who died yesterday morning at the age of 87 years, was the Bowman baby’s great grandmother. Oregon Statesman 26 Sept 1916 1:6 & 3:3
