OBITUARY:
DROPPED DEAD
William H. Brandon Dies from Heart Failure in Hayden’s Hop Yard.
An Old Resident of Salem Passed Away.
William H. Brandon, the driver of the bread wagon which Westacott & Irwin send through the hop yards daily, dropped dead at Ben Hayden’s hop yard, one mile beyond Eola, at 10 o’clock this morning. Mr. Brandon who is a man about 73 years of age, left the bakery this morning about 6:30 for his daily trip to the hop yards in the vicinity of Eola, and was apparently enjoying good health.
While at the Ben Hayden yard he suddenly fell from the wagon and expired from a stoppage of the heart. The coroner at Dallas, Dr. D. L. Woods, was notified and will probably go through the formality of an inquest.
Mr. Brandon has been a resident of Salem about 30 years and much of the time has been troubled with his heart. He has driven the bread wagon for Westacott and Irwin for many years. In recent years only working during the hop picking season. At one time he drove the wagon for five years when he was compelled by ill health to lay off. Mr. Westacott has asked permission to take charge of the body and bring it to Salem for burial but as yet no answer has been received from Coroner Woods.
Brandon is a single man and has no relatives in this state, but has in Trumbley and Scranton, O., who have been notified. Up to this time no answer has been received. If his people do not respond the remains will be buried in Salem. Until the coroner takes some action in the matter the body will remain in the hop yard, but it is probably that permission to bring it to Salem will be granted.
