Linus Brooks of Brooks: We regret to learn of the decease of Mr. Linus Brooks, founder of the town of Brooks, on the railroad, seven miles north of Salem, in Marion county. He lived to a ripe old age, and some years ago celebrated the 50th anniversary of his marriage. His aged wife still survives.
Mr. Brooks was a good man, a man of more than ordinary intelligence and considerable literary taste, a kind friend and neighbor, and in every respect a good citizen. He had a deep religious faith that actuated his life and added to his usefulness. His surviving children are honored and influential citizens of Oregon and Washington and do credit to his name.
He was one of the pioneers who made homes on French prairie at an early day, and his death, even at the ripe age attained, will be felt as a loss by many. So one by one, we bid the fathers of Oregon 'Hail and Farewell.'
