OBITUARY: 
CHURCHILL--At his home on High street, at 5:15 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 22, 1892, Joseph Churchill, aged 81 years and 4 months. Deceased was born in New York, on June 8, 1811, and was married to Miss Lucy Pangburn, in Illinois, on Jan 14, 1840. 
He leaves a wife and four children: Mrs. G. F. Smith, Mrs. A. D. Smith, E. C. Churchill, ande C.N. Churchill all of this city. He was the father of seven children, three of whom preceded him to the grave--two in infancy, the other, Mrs. N. Bier, whose death occurred less than a year ago. He and his wife crossed the plains in 1847 under Capt. Joel Palmer. They settled on a donation claim near Hubbard, Marion county, from where he moved to Salem in 1861. He enlisted in Co. B, 1st Oregon cavalry in November, 1861, and was discharged in November 1864. He took part in the Indian was on the Abiqua, near Silverton, in which the Klamath Indians were driven from this valley. He went to the California gold mines in 1850, and on returning was shipwrecked at the mouth of the Rogue river on the Hackstaff. The funeral will be from the residence of Geo. F. Smith, 191 Marion street, between High and Church streets, on Saturday at 2 o'clock.
