OBITUARY: 
FORMER EDITOR PASSES AWAY. 
William J. Clark Succumbs in Portland After Illness of One Year. 
William J. Clarke died at his home in Portland Tuesday night, January 19. He was born in Salem February 24, 1858. In his early manhood, Mr. Clarke was employed with his father, S. A. Clarke, on the Willamette Farmer, published in Salem. In those days he was one of the best known young men in this part of Oregon. Afterwards, for 17 years, Mr. Clarke was a resident of Gervais, where he was most of that time proprietor and publisher of the Gervais Star, and postmaster of Gervais. He went from Gervais a few years ago to Portland and . . . . [note: microfilm copy of the newspaper cuts off the last part of this article.]

Clarke Funeral Today. The funeral of the late W. J. Clarke, formerly of Salem, and who died in Portland Thursday night, will be held at the I.O.O. F. cemetery this fornoon, by the Masons, at the grave side. The departure will be from the Rigdon undertaking parlors at 10 a.m.
