1870 CENSUS - John Colgan, age 59, farmer, b. Ireland, is enumerated with John, age 17, William A., age 16, Robert P., age 15, all born in Massachusetts, and Ella E., age 13, Josephine, age 10, James A., age 9, Anna M., age 6, Edward N., age 2, and George H., age 11 m's, all born in Minnesota.
1900 CENSUS - John Colgan, widow, age 89, b. Aug 1810 in Ireland, immigrated to US in 1840, is enumerated as the father-in-law in the home of John Gibson, age 50, b. Oct. 1849 in Canada and his wife of 13 years Mable, age 37, b. July 1862 in Minnesota, along with Floyd Gibson, age 5, b. June 1894 in Oregon, and Pearl Gibson, age 2, b. July 1897 in Oregon.

OBITUARY: 
At a Ripe Old Age -- John Colgan died at 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon, August 24, at the home of John Gibson, two and a half miles from Salem, on the slough road. 
Deceased was born August 15, 1810. He was a few days more than 95 years old. He was the father of James Colgan of the Capital Ice Works. The funeral arrangements are not yet completed. They will be announced in tomorrow's paper.

At the home of John Gibson, 2 ½ miles south of Salem, on the Hall’s ferry road, August 24, 1906, John Colgan. Deceased was born August 10. 1810. He leaves a son, James Colgan, of the Capital Ice Works. He was a familiar figure around town, and always active until a short time ago. The funeral will be held Sunday morning at 10 o’clock, from the Leslie M.E. church and the interment will be at the Odd Fellows cemetery. Capitol Journal 24 Aug 1905 6:1
