OBITUARY: 
DEATH OF J. M. COULTER
Pioneer of Oregon and Old Resident of Portland
J. M. Coulter, a resident of this city for the pat 28 years, brother of S. Coulter, of Seattle, died at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. E. J. Green, 348 Stark street, at 1 P.M. yesterday. He was taken sick with jaundice three weeks ago, and a week later submitted to an operation which did not produce the effect hoped for, and he continued to grow worse, until yesterday, when death relieved him of his sufferings.
He was 77 years and 8 months of age, having been born in Belmont County, Ohio, November 11, 1825. He came to Oregon in 1850, and settled in Salem, where he remained 16 years, removing to Portland in 1875. Of late years he had been engaged in the manufacture of fruit-dryers. He leaves a daughter, Mrs. Green, and two sons, Byron, who is absent from Portland, and Louis, foreman of the W. C. Noon Bag Company.
