1870 CENSUS enumerates T. H. Crawford, teacher, age 30, b. Indiana, and Emily, age 23, born in Wisconsin, along with 3 children, Maud, (age 5), Merton (age 2) and Mary (age 1) - all children born in Oregon, Mary is probably "Mary Pearl".

BIOGRAPHICAL:
Three children of T. H. & E. B. Crawford died from diphtheria, from Aug 24 to Sept. 1, 1875 -- Pearl, Thomas Merton, and Maud.

OBITUARY: 
DIED -- In this city, August 24, 1875, of diptheria, Pearl, youngest daughter of T. H. and E. B. Crawford, aged 6 years and 24 days. The funeral services will take place this afternoon at 2 o'clock from the residence of Prof. T. H. Crawford, corner of Winter and Marion sts. Friends of the family are invited to be present.
