OBITUARY:
THE OLD ODD FELLOW DEAD.
Father Armstrong Passes Peacefully Away at 2 o'clock This Morning After a Brief Illness.
Father Armstrong is dead! The veteran Odd Fellow passed to the beyond a few minutes after 2 o'clock this morning. He had been confined to his bed for about three weeks, during which time he gradually grew weaker and the end came quietly. He slept his life out, having been unconscious for several hours preceding his death.
Wm. Armstrong was born in Auburn, N.Y., Jan 1, 1802, and was initiated into the mysteries of the I.O.O.F. at Buffalo, N.Y., in September, 1834. It has been conceded for many years that father Armstrong was the oldest living Odd Fellow -- oldest both in point of years of life and years of membership in the order. For more than a half century he was a regular lodge attendant and none there were who could wrest the honor from him.
Daily Oregon Statesman 11 Aug 1891 pg 1 (included is a caricature of him wearing a top hat).

In Salem, Monday night, August 10, 1891, Henry Armstrong, aged 89 years, 7 months, and nine days.  "Father" Armstrong, as he was familiartly known, was born in Auburn, N.Y., January 1st, 1802.  He enjoyed the distinction of being the oldes living Odd Fellow in the United States.  Deserted, while sick and helpless, by his son, he was found and cared for by members of the organization he loved so well and his old days were passed in peace and plenty.  Not many months since, Woodburn lodge sent him ten dollars and a fraternal invitation to visit the lodge.  He did so and the members enjoyed the priviliaged of listening to him as he told of the days when Oddfellowship was in its infancy.
