OBITUARY:
DOWNING - At Rock Point, five miles east of Shaw, Oregon, at 3 o'clock on Monday morning June 25, 1904, Miss Mabel, daughter of W. H. Downing, aged 17 years and 1 day.
The funeral will be at the Rock Point school house this (Tuesday) morning, at 9 o'clock, in charge of Rev. E. D. Skaggs, and the burial in the I. O. O. F. cemetery of Salem. The funeral procession will arrive at the cemetery about 1:30.
Deceased was an exemplary young lady, and a great favorite in the neighborhood where she lived. Her loss will be sincerely mourned by all who knew her. In yesterday morning's paper it was noted that Miss Downing's father and family had arranged a lawn fete in her honor, and while she was known to be sick of an almost incurable disease there was no idea that she was in any immediate danger of demise. The fete was attended by a large number of invited guests and the young recipient thereof was the happiest and jolliest of all present. She drove out on Sunday also and seemed to be in the very best of spirits. But her frail body began to give way on Sunday evening and the result was death at the hour noted.
