1880 NE CENSUS - Elias Down [Downs], age 44, occupation railroad hand, b. Nebraska, is enumerated as a boarder. [The record indicates he was a married man, having been married at the age of 36].
MARRIAGE - Elias Downs, over 21 & Veronica Leath, over 18, m 19 Sep 1895 at house of Geo. B. Keady by H.A. Johnson, J. P. Aff: John Knight. Wit: Geo. B. Keady & Mrs. G. B. Keady. #4903, pg 184.
1900 OR CENSUS - Elias Downs, age 66, occupation Hotel Keeper, b. Jan 1844 in Nebraska, is enumerated with his wife of 5 years, "Mrs. Rachel" [Veronica?], age 71, mother of 2 children 1 of whom is living at the time of the census, occupation florist, b. Poland, year of immigration 1837, along several boarders.

NOTE: Proprietor of "The Wilson". Ads found in newspapers from mid 1890's through 1901.

NOTE: Newspaper article [notes extracted] from the DallesTimes Mountaineer 20 Jan 1894 indicate that Elias Downs was sentenced Jan 25, 1893 from Umatilla Co., to one year for obtaining money uner false pretences. He served his time and eared merit marks , was discharged from penitentiary and applied to be restored to citizenship.

SALEM, April 18. - Elias Downs many years a hotelkeeper in this city, and formerly a resident of Pendelton, died here late last night.
