OBITUARY: At the state insane asylum, Tuesday, September 6, 1898, Mrs. Maggie Evans, aged 43 years, of heart trouble and complications resulting from asthma.
Mrs. Evans was found in her bed, Wednesday morning. Death apparently was painless. The lady had been reading during the early evening, as a book was found on the bed.
Mrs. Evans was a daughter of Mrs. E. Patton, formerly of this city, who is now in Washington. Mrs. Evans leaves two sisters, three brothers and a son to mourn her death.
Mrs. P. L. Willis, of Portland, is the only relative near enough to be conferred with. She was telegraphed to by Mrs. H. A. Dearborn, and responded that she would reach Salem this evening, when arrangements for the funeral can be made.
