Mrs. Ida Babcock Dies at Age 88
Funeral Set Tuesday for Well-Known Pioneer Resident Here
Mrs. Ida Maria Babcock, prominent Salem pioneer resident, died yesterday noon following a long illness at her family residence, 749 North Commercial street. She was 88 years old. Services will be held from the Clough-Barrick chapel Tuesday, January 24, at 1:30 p.m., with burial at IOOF cemetery, Dr. W. C. Kantner and Rev. Robert Hutchinson will have charge. 
Father and Husband Prominent 
She was born in South Kingston, Rhode Island, June 13, 1850, and was the daughter of Capt. and Mrs. Emily Pratt. Her father brought the family to Oregon while she was a young girl, Capt. Pratt established the first woolen mill in Salem and was a well-known river boat captain. On March 8, 1871, she was married to Freeland J. Babcock, former Marion county clerk. Her husband served as a captain in the civil war and was a prominent Masonic member. 
Of their four children, two survive, Miss Grace Babcock of Salem and Mrs. C. A. Maulding of Ocean Lake. Two sons are deceased, Pratt Babcock and William Paul Babcock who died in 1924. 
Active in Club Work 
Mrs. Babcock was long a member of the First Congregational church. She was a charter member of the Women's Relief corps and first department president of that organization. She was also a member of the Eastern Star, Past Matrons" association, White Shrine of Jerusalem, Old Timers' club and the Priscilla club. Survivors include the two daughters, two granddaughters, Miss Bertha Babcock of Salem, Mrs. Oliver Jessup of Portland; niece, Mrs. Carrie Beechler.

Maulding of Ocean Lake; granddaughters, Miss Bertha Babcock of Salem, Mrs. Oliver Jessup of Portland; nieces, Mrs. Carrie Beechler of Salem, Ida Haas of Oakland, California, siss Pratt, Mrs. J. W. Miles, Portland; nephew, F. B. Pratt of Portland; great grandson, Billy Jessup of Portland. Funeral services will be held from Clough-Barrick chapel Tuesday, January 24, at 1:30 p.m. with interment at IOOF cemetery, Drs. W. C. Kantner and Robert Hutchinson officiating. Casket will be open to friends until service time.
