OBITUARY: At the family residence, corner Chemeketa and Water streets, Salem, at 4 o'clock a.m., Sunday, April 26, 1891, of inflammatory rheumatism, Robert Ford.
Deceased was born in Illinois in 1832, and when he came to Oregon located in Washington county, but afterwards resided in Polk and Benton counties, and during later years in Salem. He was formerly engaged in the stock business, and during his residence in Salem conducted a livery stable for the greater part of the time. In 1883 he and J. W. Minto bought a livery stable here and the next year Mr. Ford purchased the interest of his partner and conducted the business alone until selling out.
Mr. Ford was twice married - the first time to Lydia Cahoon, who died in 1859, leaving two children, Thos. J., and Cynthia. The second marriage was in 1860 and this union resulted in the following children: James M., Mary F., Jessie G., John H., Robert R., Milton R., F. M., Daisy L., and G. L.
Mr. Ford's death was rather unexpected. He had been ill for several weeks, having been taken with inflammatory rheumatism, to which he was subject. After several weeks of suffering the disease went to his heart, and he died Sunday morning surrounded by his sorrowing family and friends. The funeral was conducted yesterday afternoon, the remains being consigned to their final resting place in the I. O. O. F. cemetery.
