OBITUARY: 

At the residence, 895 North Front street, April 5, Mary E. Haas, aged 89 years. Survived by a son, Frank Haas of Salem; daughters, Mrs. Carrie H. Beechler of Salem, Miss Ida L. Haas of Oakland, Cal.; two grandchildren, James H. Lambirth and Mrs. Carolyn Simpson of Salem; great-grandson, Robert J. Lambirth of Salem; sisters, Mrs. Ida M. Babcock of Salem; cousins, Mrs. J. H. Lauterman and Charles H. Parmenter of Salem. Funeral services from the chapel of Clough-Barrick company Friday, April 7, at 10 a.m. with Rev. W.C. Kantner officiating. Interment I.O.O.F. cemetery.

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary E. Haas, Oregon pioneer of 1857, who died at her home here yesterday, will be held from the chapel of the Clough-Barrick company Friday morning at 10 o'clock, with Rev. W. C. Kantner officiating. Interment will be in the family plot in the I.O.O.F. cemetery.
With her parents, Captain and Mrs. L. E. Pratt, Mrs. Haas came to Oregon by way of the railroad across the Isthmus of Panama, and from San Francisco to Portland by boat. The family came to Salem when Mrs. Haas was 13 years old. Mrs. Haas wove the first woolen blanket to be made in Oregon. It was bought by Joe Wait of Amity for the sum of $250.
Mrs. Haas was born at Peacedale, Rhode Island, October 1, 1844. She had lived here for 64 years in the house where she died. About three years ago she was made an honorary member of the Business and Professional Women's club of Salem. Surviving is a son, Frank P. Haas of Oakland, California; two daughters, Mrs. Carrie H. Beechler of Salem and Miss Ida L. Haas of Oakland, California; two grandchildren, James H. Lanbirth and Mrs. Carolyn Simpson of Salem; two cousins, Mrs. J. H. Lauterman and Charles H. Parmenter of Salem.
