John Hendershott died Jan 1, 1881 at the Bennett House in Salem. Will dated Dec. 1, 1880. Frances M. Hendershott appointed executor, wife and G. W. Lawson appointed Jan. 3, 1881. Heirs, Frances M., widow age 32, Lelah/Lelia [Lelah], age 4 last March; Perreign/Roy/Parven [Parvin] age 3 today (March 3, 1881); Orville age 1 last November. All reside near Eola, Polk County. Refers to a D. A. Johnson of Clickatat Co., W. T. ["a boy named Charlie"]. Burial in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Salem.

1st MARRIAGE - Mr. John Hendershott & Mrs. Mary A. Bennett, [widow of Chars. Bennett] md. Oct. 12th 1861 by William M. Davis, M.G. Witnesses: William A. Smith & Reuben Davis.


1870 OR CENSUS - J. Hendershot, age 41, occupation farmer, b. New York, is enumerated with his wife M. A., age 55, b. Kentucky [Mary Ann]


2nd MARRIAGE - John Hendershott of Marion County and Francis M. Johnson were married Oct. 8, 1874 by Hartwell Hurley, County Judge, at the home of K. B. Mercer, with K. B. Mercer and D. A. Johnson as witnesses.


1880 OR CENSUS - John Hendershott, age 52, occupation farmer, b. New York, is enumerated with wife Melinda, age 29, b. Oregon, along with Leila [Lelah], age 4, b. Oregon, Parvin, age 3, b. Oregon, and Orville, age 6 months, b. Oregon.
DISCREPANCY: marker shows year of death as 1880 but Register lists him in January of 1881 for death or burial. Probate also shows that he died in 1881.
