BIOGRAPHICAL (Source - Franklin Herrling, 2009):
Otto was born Oct. 29, 1882 in Stayton, Oregon.  He was the oldest of Franklin and Hannah Herrlings's children.  He grew up on his father's farm in Stayton.  Otto was a surveyor and in timber cruiser and never married.  In 1910 he started honesteading eastern Oregon on Ctirerion.  He raised wheat and a few head of cattle.  In 1947 he sold his somestead and moved to Salem where he purchased his father's house and surrounding acreage, which was located acroos the street from the Pioneer Cemetery.  Otto love to hunt and fish.  Otto passed away Feb. 9, 1963 and is buried in the family plot.

OBITUARY: 
Otto Herrling, 80, late resident of 2345 Rex St. S., died Saturday morning at a Salem hospital. He was born at Stayton and was never married. About 1917 he moved to the Maupin area of eastern Oregon and was a major wheat farmer until selling out and moving to Salem about 20 years ago. Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Amada Apple, Ablany, and Mrs. Bertha Kirsch, Maupin, and two brothers, Ed Herrling, Shedd, and Alfred T. Herrling, Bend. Arrangements are pending at Virgil T. Golden Chapel.
