OSBH DC (Marion County 1909) #1741 - J. H. Howell, male, married, occupation farmer, b. in New York, d. 7 Jun 1909 in Salem, Oregon at the age of 78 y's 3 m's 10 d's, name of father William Howell, b. New York, informant Ole Baker of Salem.
OBITUARY: 
At the family home by the Depot Addition to Salem at 11:30 Monday, June 7, 1909, J. H. Howell, aged 78 years, after a long illness. 
The deceased who, was an Oregon pioneer, is survived by his wife, who is very ill at present. For several years Mr. Howell has been janitor at the state house, and leaves a wide circle of friends. The funeral will be held from Clough’s undertaking parlors Wednesday and interment will be made in the I.O.O.F. cemetery. Daily Oregon Statesman 8 Jun 1909 8:3
