1880 OR CENSUS - S. R. Jessup, age 41, physician born in Indiana (both parents born in NC) is enumerated with his wife, Sophronia, age 30, born in Iowa, and their two children Albert (age 5, b. Oregon), and Roy (age 3, born in Oregon).

BIOGRAPHICAL (Source - Larsell, pg. 201): 
Dr. S. R. Jessup (1839 - 1901) was born in Indiana but went to Iowa as a boy, and came to Oregon in 1863, teaching school for a time at Amity. In 1868 he graduated from the Willamette Medical Department and began practice at Dallas. Three years later he graduated from Bellevue, New York, returning to Oregon to settle at Salem, where he remained in practice the greater part of his life. He also served as professor of anatomy at Willamette for a numbr of years.

BIOGRAPHICAL (Source - Hayter, Dr. Mark, "Dr. Hayter Recalls Early Day Doctors of Dallas", Historically Speaking, Vol. V, pg 37, PCHS, Aug 1881): 
"There was a man by the name of Jessup located here for a time during the 1860's.  He was a homeopathyst.  He moved to Salem where he remained until his death.  He was one of those rolypoly little fellows who had a very fine personallity.  He had a son, a very good friend of mine, who practiced dentistry for many years in Boise, Idaho."

Dr. S. R. Jessup Succumbed to Disease Yesterday - After an Illness of Over One Year - A Physician in This City for Thirty Years.
Dr. S. R. Jessup, aged 62 years, 5 months and 22 days, died at his residence, at No. 178 State street, yesterday morning at 6:10 o'clock, after over one year's suffering, of stomach trouble.
Dr. Solon Robinson Jessup was born at Stilesville, Indiana, on April 23, 1839, and came to Oregon in 1861, settling in Dallas, where he remained until he came to Salem and has resided here continuously since. In the year 1868 he graduated from the Medical College of the Willamette University, and on August 26th of the same year was married to Miss Sophronia Cashow [Coshow], who, with one son, Dr. Albert A. Jessup, survives him. In 1872 he graduated from the Bellevue Medical College of New York City and, returning to this city, he built up a large and lucrative practice, which he enjoyed and attended to unfailingly up to about one year ago, when his ailments bore him down to such an extent that he was obliged to relinquish his practice, being relieved by Dr. Charles A. Ballard.
Dr. Jessup was ever a very careful and painstaking physician, always ready to respond to the summons of suffering humanity, a kind, affectionate and devoted husband and father, and a loyal and patriotic citizen, with a pleasant smile and kind word for everybody. He was a devout and faithful member of the First Baptist church of this city for many years, and was one of the principal contributors at the time of the erection of the new church of that organization. He was also a liberal contributor to the Y.M.C.A. and to many charities throughout his long life.
Dr. Jessup was a member of Pacific Lodge No. 50, A.F. & A.M., and also of Protection Lodge No. 2, A.O.U.W.
Funeral services will be held at the residence, at No. 178 State street, tomorrow (Thursday, October 17th) at 2 p.m., conducted by Rev. Ronald McKillop and at the Rural cemetery by Pacific Lodge No. 50, A.F. & A. M., under whose directions he will be buried.
