OBITUARY:
FUNERAL OF MRS. BATT
Mrs. Peggy C. Batt, died at the residence of Mrs. Townsend at 15 minutes past 10 o'clock on Thursday evening, and was buried from the Baptist Church at 2:30 on Friday, Oct. 17th.
For many years she had been a sufferer, and in the absence of relatives to care for her, she has found a home and the most constant and tender care in the family of Mrs. Mary Townsend. She was born July 11, 1795, and was 84 years, 9 months and 4 days old. She was married at the age of 20 and lived with her husband 36 years. She was the mother of 14 children, 8 of whom are supposed to be living, but they seem to have forgotten a mother's tender care, and she who shared in her earlier life, and part of her married life the bitter fortunes of the world, was left to go down to the grave unwept and uncared for by those who should have been her pastoral protectors. But she found in the home of Mrs. Townsend those who kindly cared for her, and who weep at her grave, with many other real friends whose sympathies have been drawn out for her during her suffering, and whose friendship and society she shared. She was a devoted Christian, and all believe "she sleeps in Jesus." The address upon the occasion was made by her pastor, Rev. J. C. Baker, based upon the 9th Psalm. J. C. B.
