Survived by wife, Mrs. Marie Matthes; daughter, Mrs. Marie Olson, grandson, John Olson, jr., of Portland; sister, Mrs. W. A. Mumper of Salem; brothers, Ed A., Lewis C., Frank B., Willard, James L., all of Salem; J. L. Matthes of Kent, Services will be held from the Clough-Barrick chapel Wednesday, August 23, at 1:30 p.m. Rev. Guy L. Drill will officiate. Interment IOOF cemetery.

George R. Matthes Dies in California.
LAKE LABISH. Word of the death of George R. Matthes, former resident here, was received by friends this week from Artesia, Calif., where he has lived for the past 20 years.
Matthes was born October 24, 1867, at New London, Wis., and came to Oregon with his parents in November, 1877.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Marie Matthes of Artesia, Calif.; his daughter, Mrs. Marie Hansen; grandson, John Hansen, jr., both of Portland; sister, Mrs. Marie Mumper; brothers, Edward, Frank and Wilard, all of Salem; brother, James of Kent.
