BORN HERE, SHE DIES IN SEATTLE.
REPORT STATES MRS. MATTHEWS FORMERLY MISS MATHENY TOOK CARBOLIC ACID.
Word comes from Seattle that Mrs. Katherine Matthews, aged 32, drank carbolic acid there Tuesday and died as the result. It is said that she had grieved over the suicide of an old friend and this may have led to the act. She was wealthy, having steel and oil stock, and real estate worth about $60,000, which it is said she left to a sister at Gaston, Oregon. Mrs. Matthews was born in Salem, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Matheny, now dead. The Matheny family were among Salem's pioneers and left this city about six years ago to make their home in Tacoma. The body will probably be brought here for interment.

The funeral of Mrs. Katherine Matheny Matthews, who came to her death by suicide in Seattle, will be held today at 2 o'clock from the undertaking parlors of W. T. Rigdon, and interment will be made in I. O. O. F. cemetery.
