McMahan, at one time candidate for governor of Oregon on the progressive ticket, and Miss Bertha Bird [Byrd], both of Salem, were married at the home of the bride's parents here tonight. The wedding ceremony was performed by Rev. W. C. Kanter. Only a few friends and relatives of the couple were present. Mr. McMahan has been active in Oregon politics for many years and is widely known in the state."

OBITUARY: 
Bertha Byrd McMahon
Late resident of 891 Front St. N. Feb. 26 in a local hospital. 
Survived by daughter, Mrs. Margaret Barton, Seattle; son, Carl H. McMahan, Salem; 4 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. 
Services will be Friday, March 1, 10:300 a.m. in the V. T. Golden Chapel, Rev. Carl Calhoun officiating. Interment in Pioneer Cemetery.

Services for Mrs. Bertha Byrd McMahan, who died Tuesday night in a Salem nursing home at the age of 89, will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Virgil T. Golden chapel. Rev. Carl Calhoun will officiate. Interment will be at Pioneer Cemetery. She was born in the Fairfield community near Gervais, moving to Salem in 1890. She was married at Salem in 1919 to L. H. McMahan, editor who later became a state legislator and Marion County circuit Court Judge. He died in 1957. She taught school in Salem for 20 years, first at Central School, now the site of Meier & Frank Store, later at Garfield School. She was a member of First Congregational Church, Order of Eastern Star and Willamette White Shrine. Survivors include a [step]-son, Carl H. McMahan, Salem, [and a stepdaughter], Mrs. Margaret Barton, Seattle, four grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
