The following is an obituary notice (Oregon Statesman 30 Jul 1927 5:7) for George P. Holman, the father of this infant, George Phelps Holman: "George P. Holman Dies at Vancouver. Meager news concerning the death of George P. Holman, has reached Salem. He died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. B. D. London, on Angus avenue, Vancouver, B. C., on Monday last, aged 85 years. His mother, Miss Phelps, from whom he got his middle name, was one of the passengers on the historic Lausanne missionary ship carrying recruits for Jason Lee. The same year, 1843, Joseph Holman, who became her husband, came overland to the Oregon country.
These early pioneers were the grandparents of Jos. H. Albert, of Salem. George Phelps Holman was an uncle of Mr. Albert. The Holman family was well known to all old Oregonians; and very prominent in the affairs of the old early days of this state.

PHOTOGRAPH NOTE - The picture of the George Holman house is courtesy of Salem (Oregon) Public Library Historic Photograph Collections.  The caption is: "This photo of the George Holman home in Salem, Oregon, was taken in the winter time; there is snow on the bushes, trees, and on the ground. The house was on the north side of Court Street across from the open capitol grounds and between Cottage and Winter streets. It appears in a picture taken in 1870; Mr. Holman was listed in the 1872 Salem City Directory as an executive at the Pioneer Oil Company. The house is almost identical to Mr. Holman's father's home in the same block and the property is also surrounded by a picket fence. The house is two story and has brackets under the roofline, bay windows on both floors, and a balcony off the bedroom over the front porch. There are three chimney's visible. The home was either moved or torn down and the Murphy-Bishop house was located on the site in the 1890's."
