EX-WARDEN DIES TUESDAY
SERVICES LISTED FOR C. A. MURPHY 
Funeral services for Charles A. Murphy of 4506 N.E. Hancock street, former warden of the Oregon state penitentiary, who died at his home early Tuesday, will be held at 11:30 A. M. Thursday at Holman & Lutz Mortuary. He had been ill for about a year. 
Mr. Murphy was born in Salem June 15, 1868, the son of William P. Murphy. A former construction engineer, he was superintendent of construction for the eastern Oregon state hospital from 1911 to 1916 and warden of the state penitentiary from 1917 to 1919. 
Construction Work Followed 
As a building inspector for reinforced concrete buildings and later as a certified superintendent of school construction for the city of Portland, he helped build numerous schools in and near Portland, including Grant high school and Estacada school. He was an inspector for the United States army engineers at the Portland air base until about a year ago. A captain in the Spanish-American war, he served in the Philippines and was later a guard at the Lewis and Clark fair in 1905. He was a 343d degree Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite and Al Kader temple of the Shrine. 
Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Emma M. Brown, Salem; Mrs. Myra Robnett, Albany, and Mrs. Elsie Lamoureux, Seattle; four nephews, Keith Brown, Salem; Elmo Robnett, a Japanese prisoner of war, Ronald Robnett, Massachusetts, and Charles Robnett, Albany, and a niece, Mrs. Jean Davis, Seattle. The wife, the late Flora May Murphy, died two and one-half years ago.
