BIOGRAPHICAL:
"Chester Griffin Murphy.
Residence, 475 Holladay avenue; office, 335 Chamber of Commerce building, Portland.  Born February 8, 1886, at Portland, Oregon.  Son of Dan R. and Caroline V. (Kennedy) Murphy.  Educated at the public and high school of  Portland, graduating in 1904.  Attended Leland Stanford, Jr., University, from 1904 to 1908, graduating in that year with the dgree of A. B.  Admitted to the Supreme Court of Oregon at Salem, October 8, 1908, and practiced in the office of Murphy, Brodie & Swett from that time until January 1, 1910, when he formed a partnership with W.F. Eastham under the firm name of Eastham & Murphy, which continues to date.  Member Phi Betta Kappa and Phi Delta fraternities.  Republican.

OBITUARY: 
DEATH TAKES EX-GRID STAR 
Funeral services for Chester G. Murphy, 73, 2335 E. Burnside street, will be Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at Holman and Lutz. Mr. Murphy died Saturday at a local hospital. 
Mr. Murphy was a former football star, as well as a skilled athlete in other sports. He was born in Salem, attended Willamette and Stanford universities. He was graduated from Stanford in 1900 where he was captain of the football team and a star player. He was graduated from Harvard law school in 1903, and had been practicing law in Portland since then until quite recently. In addition to his legal practice, Mr. Murphy was for several years a judge of the bankruptcy court. 
In 1912 Mr. Murphy married Angela Kinney at Portland, who survives him. He is survived also by two daughters, Mrs. James Burtchsell and Mrs. James Norwood, and two sisters, Mrs. L. G. Clark and Mrs. A. J. Giesy, all of Portland. Mr. Murphy was a charter member of the University club.

C. G. MURPHY, FORMER SALEM RESIDENT, DIES 
Chester G. Murphy, a former Salem man who once owned the Murphy block here, died Saturday in a Portland hospital. He was 73. Born in Salem, Murphy attended local schools and Willamette university. He later was graduated from Stanford university where he captained the football team in 1900. Murphy also was graduated from Harvard law school and had been an attorney in Portland since 1903. He served several years as judge of the bankruptcy court there. 
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Angela Murphy; two daughters , Mrs. James Burtchaell and Mrs. James Norwood; and two sisters, Mrs. A. J. Giesy and Mrs. L. G. Clark, all live in Portland. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at the Colonial mortuary in Portland.
