OBITUARY: 
PAYTON--In Stockton, Cal., Thursday evening, April 7, 1893, Dr. David Payton. 
Dr. Payton was an Eastern Oregon pioneer, having come to this country when it was very thinly settled. He was prominently connected with educational interests, being at one time president of the Willamette university. He is widely known and a host of friends will mourn his loss.

Will Be Buried Here. The remains of the late Dr. Daniel Payton, a former resident of this city who died in Stockton, Calif., last Friday, will be brought to this city tomorrow morning for burial, by Dr. J. E. Payton, son of the deceased. The funeral will be conducted by the Masonic fraternity.

Dr. Payton's Funeral. The funeral services of Dr. D. Payton, a former resident of Salem and dean of the medical school of Willamette university, will be held at the M. E. church today, at 1:30 p.m. Dr. I. D. Driver, of Eugene, will conduct the services.

The Late Dr. Payton - The telegraphic columns of the Statesman yesterday morning contained the announcement of the sudden death of Dr. Daniel Payton, at Stockton, Calif., at 6:30 Friday evening from apoplexy. He was aged 66 years and a member of the California board of health. Dr. Payton was formerly a resident of Salem, having come here from LaGrande probably in 1867. 
From 1874 to 1875 he was dean of the medical department ofWillamette university. During his residence in Salem he was engaged in the practice of his profession. Here he raised his family and it was here that his wife died. He was very successful in his profession and enjoyed a large practice. He was for a short time proprietor of the Snowden springs, in Douglas county, In 1883 he left Salem to take up his residence in California and had ever since resided in that state. A son of deceased, D. J. E. Payton, of Eugene, left Friday night for Stockton and will return to Salem this week with the body, which will be given burial here either Tuesday of Wednesday.
