DEATH CERTIFICATE:
OBITUARY:
Fannie B. PAYTON -- Died January 26th, 1877.
That death likes a shining mark, is nowhere better exemplified than when a child just developing with all the faculties of body and mind into man or woman hood is cut down in our midst. This was especially marked in the death of Fannie B. Payton, who was born May 23, 1862, in the State of Iowa; a girl peculiarly noted for her faithful performance of every duty in life which was assigned to her; whether that duty was one of great moment of trifling import, it was sufficient for her to know that it was a duty, and therefore she bent every power both of mind and body to its faithful execution. It is stated by those who are informed of the facts in the case, that during the entire school years of 1875-6 and also of 1876-7, up to the time of her last sickness, she had never been dilatory in attention at school; had never neglected her duties as a Christian, being punctual in her attendance at Church and at prayer meetings; and, in fact, endeavoring to do her duty, and he whole duty, in every position in which she was placed. These are truly rare qualities in a child, but such they were, and as such are deserving of more than passing notice. Whenever upon any point she had fixed her standard of what was right, that was final with her; there was no compromise; no equivocation; no changing or turning her from her purpose, but her aim was to do right for right's sake, and without any other motive at all. In the domestic circle she was for her gentle, unobtrusive manners, liked by all who knew her, and to know her was to love her. Her short live seems to have been very freely interspersed with acts of kindness toward others, and she was, as are all such natures, peculiarly considerate not to wound the feelings of any one. The child is gone, and rarely indeed shall we see her like again.
