OBITUARY: 
At her home No. 162 Cottage street at 3 a.m. Sunday, June 16, 1895, after a lingering illness. Mrs. Emily Phillips, aged 56 years, 7 months and 15 days. 
Deceased had been a resident of Salem since 1865. Her native state is Illinois and she crossed the plains to Oregon in 1862. She was the mother of five children of whom W. H. and J. S. Phillips, are yet living. Her husband preceded her in death several years ago. She was a member of the First Baptist church of Salem and as such was a conscientious and untiring worker for the cause of religion. 
The remains were laid to rest in Rural cemetery yesterday afternoon preceeded by funeral services at her residence at 2 o’clock conducted by Rev. P. J. Farmer.
