OBITUARY:
At the residence of his brother, Robt. Reid, No. 288 Crosby street, Portland, Jackson Chase Reid died on Wednesday, May 29th, at 3 p.m.
Deceased was born near Bedford, Iowa, on the ninth day of January 1865 and is the son of Robert and Frances A. Reid, and a brother on G. S. and Arthur M. Reid, of this city, and of Chas. M. Purvine, of Zema, Oregon. His other brothers are Robert A., Charles R. and Paul W. Reid, of Chattanooga, Tenn.
In 1888 he graduated at the Salem Business College, after which he was employed about a year in the store of M. T. Rineman, then going to Chattanooga, Tennessee, where he has been in the employ of the Southern Land & Loan Company for the past eleven years.
On September 13, 1893, he was married to Miss Elsie Evangeline Reed of Chattanooga. Within the last two years his health began to fail, which continued until a few weeks since. He concluded to make his attempt to reach his old home in Salem; therefore bidding adieu to his wife and two children he left Chattanooga and made the trip across the continent, and landed at the home of his brother in Portland last Friday. Shortly after going to Chattanooga he embraced the Christian religion and became an earnest worker in the Presbyterian church of that city.
The remains will arrive in Salem on the 11 a. m. train today, from whence the funeral cortege will proceed to Rural cemetery. A brief service will be conducted at the grave by Rev. G. A. McKinlay of Woodburn.
