He was the son of Rufus Riggs, born in Illinois, and Evaline Nicklin Riggs, born in Virginia. Informant was Tom Cronise, [brother-in-law who was a well-known photographer in Salem].

OBITUARY: 
At the Salem hospital, Friday, November 1, James B. Riggs of 1883 North Front street. He was the son of Rufus Riggs, a pioneer of 1845. He is survived by one brother, Dr. J. O. Riggs of Portland, and two sisters, Mrs. T. J. Cronise and Mrs. Sadie Fleming of Salem. The funeral will be private from the Webb & Clough chapel on Monday at 1:30 o'clock. Burial will be in Odd Fellows cemetery.
