OBITUARY:
OLD RESIDENT DIES SUDDENLY.
Mrs. J. P. Robertson Passes Away While Resting at Home.
Mrs. Robertson Came to Salem in 1870 and Has Lived in Salem for 25 Years - Was Devout Baptist
Funeral Services Saturday.
Mrs. J. P. Robertson, aged 75 years, a resident of Salem for 25 years, passed away suddenly at her home, 909 Center street, at 3:30 p. m. yesterday. Her husband was alone in the house with her and noticed her gasp as she lie on a couch and immediately summoned his daughter, County Recorder Mildred Robertson Brooks, and son, Dr. Charles H. Robertson, but before either could reach the home Mrs. Robertson was dead.
Mrs. Robertson suffered a paralytic stroke six years ago and has since been unable to leave the house but has been able to walk about. Yesterday she was apparently much more cheerful and in better health than usual and assisted with some light household tasks. She lie down in the afternoon to rest and death came while she was apparently asleep. She had spoken to her husband a few moments before.
Mrs. Robertson was born in Rockford, Ill., January 18, 1841. Her maiden name was Henrietta Harl. When a child she moved to Iowa with her parents and was married to John P. Robertson, August 30, 1866. With her husband she came to Oregon in July, 1876, settling in the Prospect Hill district, later moving to Salem.
She was a devout Baptist and active in church circles. She was a member of the Salem church for 40 years. Surviving are her husband, two daughters, Mrs. Mildred Robertson Brooks, and Miss Mabel P. Robertson, and a son, Dr, Charles H. Robertson, and three grandchildren, Russell M. Brooks, J. Robertson Brooks and Charles G. Robertson. Another grand-daughter, Charlotte Robertson, died May 28, 1915, the first death in the family since the marriage of Mrs. Robertson.
Funeral services will be held at the home Saturday, Rev. Carl H. Elliott of the First Presbyterian church conducting the service. Interment will be in Odd Fellows cemetery.
