DEATH CERTIFICATE:
OBITUARY:
WAS OLD SALEMITE; C. S. Rockenfield Dropped Dead in a Street Car in Portland Yesterday Morning Cleves S. Rockenfield, agent in the city for the Gideon Stolz company of Salem, manufacturers of pickles and vinegars, was suddenly stricken with heart failure, and died on the street car about 8:30 o’clock this morning while on his way to his office, 140 Front street, from his home in Montavilla. Mr. Rockenfield was 65 years of age and has no relatives in this city except a wife of about the same age who is not in very good health. He has a nephew in Salem, the only relative in the state. He has been in the employ of Mr. Stolz for a number of years and the two men have been very warm friends for a long time. Mr. Stolz arrived today upon being telegraphed and will take charge of the body. Mr. Rockenfield was not known to be in poor health except for a slight attack of la grippe which he had complained of the last two days, but which did not interfere with his duties. He seldom missed a day at the office. He would have arrived at the usual time this morning had not the death call interfered. (From the Portland Journal of last night) Mr. Rockenfield was well known in Salem, where he was at one time in the grocery business. For a long time, up to a dozen or so years ago, Mrs. Rockenfield conducted a green house near the state house. John Maurer, the gunsmith, is a nephew of Mrs. Rockenfield. He and Gideon Stolz went to Portland on the delayed train last evening. Deceased was a member of Sedgwick post, G. A. R., of this city. Oregon Statesman 3 February 1907 5:8
