OBITUARY:
At St. Vincent’s hospital, Portland, Saturday, November 16, 1895, George Rogers.
The Statesman, a few weeks ago noted the prostration of Mr. Rogers and a week ago yesterday chronicled the fact that Colonel Olmsted had taken him to the hospital. He was suffering from cancer of the liver and it was known he could not long survive, but the sufferer maintained his courage to the last. Thursday, the 14th, he wrote to Mr. Olmsted a postal card in a strong, steady hand, saying, "Thanks for your kind inquiries, I think I am some better -- less pain," but yesterday a dispatch came saying he was dead. Mr. Olmsted telegraphed to place the remains in a first-class case and ship here this morning, so that the old printer and newspaper man, who made and spent lots of money in his day, will be decently laid to rest.
He was a man of considerable ability as a writer and had a wide scope of information. He had no relatives in these parts so far as known, but he was an old settler in Oregon and Northern California. He was probably 55 years old or more.
