OBITUARY: DIPHTHERIA INVADES THE HOME OF JAS. DENHAM, IN THIS CITY.
Gracie Lois Denham, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Denham, who reside at the northwest corner of Center and Church streets, this city, departed this life at 7:50 p.m. Sunday, June 20th, aged 11 years, 2 months and 14 days. Her death was caused by diphtheria, the dread disease having attacked her on Thursday evening, three days only before she breathed her last. At 10 a.m. yesterday the little body was consigned to its last resting place in Rural cemetery, the funeral services being conducted at the grave by Rev. G. W. Grannis, of the First Methodist church in the presence of only those members of the family who had been exposed. Gracie was of an amiable disposition and had a large number of friends and acquaintances who dearly loved her. She was a faithful member of the Presbyterian Sunday school and was to have taken part in the "children’s day" exercises at that church on Sunday morning. (The remainder of the obituary is unreadable on the microfilm)
