DEATH TAKES PIONEER
Funeral Service Over Remains of Lewis Savage Saturday.
Just thirty-three days after the passing of his beloved wife and life partner, Lewis Savage, aged 83, died, grief stricken, at his home four miles northeast of Salem. Mrs. Savage had been ill for some time prior to her death and after her remains had been laid to rest in the family plot in the I.O.O.F. cemetery, the aged pioneer lost his grip on life and passed peacefully to the great beyond after years of fruitful labor.
Both were pioneer residents of the state and were highly respected citizens of Marion county. Funeral services will be held over the remains of Mr. Savage Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Unitarian church following a short service at the residence at 12:30.
The burial will take place in the I.O.O.F. cemetery and will be under the auspices of Chemeketa lodge No. 1, of which the deceased had long been a member.
Coming to Salem, September 11, 1846, Mr. Savage was active in agricultural life up to a few years before his death. He leaves one son and one daughter, Elliott M. Savage and Mrs. H. C. Fletcher both of this city. He also leaves four grandsons and one great grandson.
