OBITUARY: Viola Burson, 94, of Salem died Tuesday.
Born in Yoncalla, she was raised and educated in Salem. She was a legal stenographer and correspondent for the Statesman Journal for 25 years. She was a 4-H leader, belonged to Macleay Women’s Club and Macleay Country Gardeners and enjoyed singing in the church choir and gardening. She married Virgil Burson in 1925; he is deceased. Survivors include her daughter, Carol of Salem; sons, Tom, Richard and Kermit, all of Salem; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Services will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Methodist Church, where she was a member. Private interment will be at Pioneer Cemetery. Arrangements are by City View Funeral Home. Contributions: the church or Willamette Valley Hospice.
