OBITUARY:
FLETCHER -- At the family residence four miles northeast of Salem, at 6 p.m., Tuesday, March 13, 1894, Mrs. Silas Fletcher. Anna Herren Fletcher, one of the noblest women that Marion county ever possessed, was born on the 10th of April, 1856, at the old Herren homested on Salem prairie, where her girlhood days were spent. At the age of 19 she was joined in marriage to Silas M. Fletcher, a highly-esteemed citizen of this county, to whom many friends in the city extend sympathy in his great sorrow. Their only child, a little son, was laid to rest six years ago. Of Mrs. Fletcher it can truly be said that no troubled heart left her uncomforted, no hungry one unfed, no needy one unclothed. The shock of her sudden death will be felt throughout this community. It is an exceedingly sad blow to her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Herren, of this city. Only a few years ago three other children were called suddenly to their last resting place. The funeral will take place at 12 o'clock today from the farm residence. Daily Oregon Statesman, March. 15, 1894, 4:4. LAID to REST ---The funeral services of Mrs. S. M. Fletcher were conducted yesterday at the farm home, northwest of Salem, by Rev. E. S. Bollinger, superintendent of the blind school. Many friends and acquaintances were present to extend sympathy to the bereaved parents and husband. The funeral cortege passed through Salem about 2 o'clock for Rural cemetery where the remains were laid to rest. Daily Oregon Statesman 16 March 1894 4:1.
