DEATH CERTIFICATE:
OBITUARY:
At the family home in East Salem, Saturday, August 5, after a lingering illness, Clifford Austin Mellen, aged 43 years.
Deceased has been ill for nearly two years, and for six months has been gradually sinking, until the end came peacefully this morning more as a relief to the sufferer than otherwise. He was a native of Marion county, and has spent nearly all his life in Salem, where he leaves a host of warm friends in the best circles. He leaves a wife, a mother and sister to mourn his departure, all of whom were most devoted to him, and especially during his months of almost hopeless illness. He most patiently and resignedly awaited the end, knowing that his greatest sacrifice would be the parting with those dear to him.
The funeral will be held at the home Sunday at 4 o'clock p. m., Rev. P. S. Knight officiating, and as he was a charter member of the Order of Foresters, the lodge will probably take charge of the services at the grave in the Odd Fellows' cemetery. Among the relatives from out of town who will attend the funeral are Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Hubbard, of Independence, and Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Ireland, of Monmouth.
