INDUSTRIAL PIONEER DIES IN HOME FIRE
Andrew M. Hansen, 94, who died in a fire at his home 562 Mill St. SE, early Saturday, was one of Salem's industrial pioneers and a prominent figure in city growth.
Born in Denmark, he came to the U.S and aslem at about four years of age.
He founded a sash and door manufacturing firm which spanned 65 years.  At first located on High and Mills streets, the plant was moved about 60 years ago to Mill and Church streets, beside his home, and at one time employed 75 men.  In later years he went into partnership for a while with William Liljequist.  The mill was torn down some ears ago.
Owned Mill Street Property.
He owned extensive property in the neighborhood between Mill Creekm and also had some 17 pieces of rental property at one time, friends said.  Most of the property was sold or deeded to relatives in recent years as Hansen became unable to manage all of his holdings, friends added.
An avid baseball fan, Hansen was an almost nightly spectator at Salem Dodgers hoome games and has attended the Salem game Friday night with a long-time friend, Jack Fritz of Salem.  Hansen has a life-time pass to Salem games, the only one in existence.  It was bestowed five years ago by the then Salem Senators in recognition of his faithful support.
He was a member of the First Christian Church, Knights of Pythias, and Woodmen of the World.
Survivors include a brother, Paul C. Hansen, Salem, and several nieces and nephews.
Services to Be Tuesday.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Barrick Funeral Home.  Rev. Orville Mick will officiate.
An estimated $7,500 damage was done to Hansen's home, which he built 50 years ago.  Whether it will be repaired, or the building razed, remains to be decided, friends said.
Four fire trucks from the Salem downtown station answered the alarm.  One fireman was treated for cuts, and four were treated for blisters.
