Former Salem Man Dies in Yamhill
Body of W. M. Rennie brought to old home for burial in I.O.O.F. cemetery. News of the death of W. M. Rennie at McMinnville, Sunday, Dec. 11, was received here yesterday. Mr. Rennie was well known in this city, where he was in business many years. His funeral will take place in Salem, Wednesday, upon the arrival of the 12:20 Salem, Dallas & Falls City train, the funeral party going directly from the train. The funeral will be under the auspices of the I.O.O.F. lodge. The Oregonian, under a McMinnville date line, has the following to say of the death of Mr. Rennie: The death of W. M. Rennie, a pioneer flour mill man of the Pacific coast, occurred at his home in this city today. Mr. Rennie was born May 24, 1832, in Tsbroath, Scotland, emigrating to the United States in 1858 and arriving at San Francisco via the Isthmus. In 1859 he built the Caledonia flouring mills in that city, engaging in business there until his mills were burned in 1862. He then brought his family to Oregon and was for some years a miller at Salem, and subsequently engaged in that occupation in various points in this Willamette valley.
Mr. Rennie was married in 1856, before leaving Scotland, to Miss Janet Grant, who, with their five sons and one daughter, survives him. The children are James Rennie of Enterprise, Or.; J.W. Rennie and John M. Rennie of Waterville, Or.; Alexander Rennie of Reardon, Wash., and Mrs. Jessie Lindgren of Portland. Mr. and Mrs. Rennie have been residents of McMinnville for the last 32 years, with the exception of a few years’ residence with their son at Enterprise.
