OBITUARY:
The Becket Funeral
The remains of the late P.J. Beckett were buried Sunday morning. Brief services were conducted by Rev. John Parson’s at Clough’s undertaking parlors, and a service was also conducted at the graveside by Rev. Dawson of Willamette University. The services were conducted under the auspices of the local typographical union, of which the deceased was a member, and were largely attended by the members of the craft. Interment was had in the family lot in Rural cemetery, and the following named printers served as pall bearers: Ed. Lamb, Wm. Baker, J.E. Godfrey, E.H. Flagg, W.D. Torry and N.D. Elliott. Mrs. Beckett arrived from California in time to attend the funeral.
A beautiful floral tribute, consisting of a huge wreath of white carnations, with the numerals “30” set within blue violets, was the gift of the members of the local typographical union. The emblem is symbolic of the craft and its significance bore silent testimony to the untimely end of the dead comrade.
