OBITUARY: A DAY OF MOURNING.
The messenger of Death visited this city on Sunday last and claimed three of her well-known citizens - the soul of E.J. Colbath, of Asylum avenue, separated itself from the body, at his bidding. About seven months ago, Elijah Jackson Colbath was taken ill at his home on Asylum avenue, and today his body lies cold in death, his life becoming extinct at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 14th.
He was a native of Gardner, Maine, and was born on June 9, 1833. He became the husband of Miss Gabrielle Hayden, on July 1, 1860; she being a sister of Hon. Benjamin Hayden and Mrs. G. C. Clark. The wife and five children survive him, the latter being J.H. Colbath, now of Roseburg; B.B. Colbath, a deputy sheriff of Marion county; Nathaniel, Alfred, and Camilla, at the family home. Mr. Colbath was well-known as a millwright, and was a very public-spirited citizen; he was numbered among the volunteer firemen of the Capital City, and also a member of Valley Lodge, A.O.U.W. Rev.
