Tuesday morning, Oct. 18th, 1892, in South Salem, of kidney trouble, Gaines Fisher, aged 55 years. Gaines Fisher was born in Maryland, and had spent about 15 years in Oregon. For many years he conducted a successful livery business in this city and about two years ago he removed to Newton, Iowa, where he remained in business about a year. Since then he was in Portland until very recently, when he returned to Salem. Last January Mr. Fisher was married to his present wife, and they had made all preparations to remove to Independence, Iowa. Their goods were packed and they had expected to start Monday, when Mr. Fisher was taken seriously ill on Saturday, which terminated fatally at 8 o’clock this morning. Mr. Fisher has a sister and several brothers living; also a son, Gaines Fisher, Jr. who lives in Portland. He was recently appointed a member of the State board of Agriculture, and was a prominent member of the Masonic fraternity. The funeral will be held tomorrow under the auspices of the Salem masons.
