OBITUARY: The Jury Finds A Verdict – Funeral Services.
The jury consisting of J. C. Johnson, foreman, F. J. Catterlin, F. M. Townsend, F. J. Bolter, Ed. Arnold and W. H. Riddell summoned by Coroner a. M. Clough to inquire into the cause of the death of Morton Brown found “that deceased came to his death on the 8th day of July, 1895 by drowning with intent to commit suicide and that death was occasioned by his own hand.” The remains of the unfortunate young man were prepared for burial by Coroner A. M. Clough and placed in a neat plain casket and conveyed to the family home at the southwest corner of Chemeketa and summer streets this morning. Although his face was very black when rescued from the river caused by the bursting of blood vessels, he looked quite natural this morning. Funeral services were conducted at the house at 2:30 o’clock this afternoon by Rev. P. S. Knight. The services were largely attended. The remains were interred to Rural cemetery.
