OBITUARY:
SALEM - Joan Lenore Beecroft passed away on May 13, 2012 at the age of 86 from heart disease. She was born on January 23, 1926 in Salem, as a fourth-generation Oregonian, to Roy and Sylvia Remington.
Joan graduated from Salem High School in 1944, then briefly attended Willamette University before being trained as a medical assistant. She worked for several doctors throughout her adult life.
A blind date on a Valentine's Day lead to her long, happy marriage to Donald Beecroft on June 28, 1947. Together they raised two children and built two houses. A lifetime Salem resident, she treasured her family and friends and took great pleasure in hosting lovely meals at their gorgeous home and garden. Cooking, sewing, tole painting, traveling, gardening and doing for others were her many passions. Joan was also an active volunteer for a variety of organizations, including the YMCA, and donated to many worthy causes. Donald passed away in 2006.
Joan is survived by her daughter, Linda and her husband Richard Mario; son, Steve and his wife Susan Irish Beecroft; and five grandchildren, Megan and her husband Dustin Janz, Kyle and Kendra Mario, Ian and Tyler Beecroft as well as nephews, nieces and cousins. As the beloved matriarch of our extended family she leaves a lasting legacy.
The family wishes to thank Willamette Valley Hospice for its extraordinary care and compassion throughout this difficult time.
A memorial service for Joan will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, at Morningside United Methodist Church at 3674 12th Street SE, Salem. Arrangements are by City View Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to Marion-Polk Food Share would be welcomed.
