Robert. A. Pound

Oct. 21, 1920 ~Feb.16, 2015

Residents of Walnut Creek

Eleanor was born in California and grew up in Stockton. After high school she attended UC Berkeley where she graduated with a major in psychology. Bob was born in Salem, OR. In 1941 he joined the army, 162 infantry regiment, 41st division, as an officer and fought in the South Pacific attaining the rank of Captain. After WWII he moved to CA to return to school on the GI bill at UC Davis and then transferred to UC Berkeley where he met Eleanor. They were married in 1947 at the chapel at UOP by a Unitarian minister. They moved to Walnut Creek where they lived in the same house for 68 years, until Bob's death. Both Bob and Eleanor were active in the Mt. Diablo Unitarian Church and this is where Eleanor flourished. She was instrumental in raising funds for the new church to be built on Eckley Lane and later became the president of the church once her children were in High School. Bob was very active in the Diablo Valley Fly Fisherman Club. He was a passionate fisherman and traveled with his son, John, who inherited his love of fishing, to many of the most famous fishing spots in the world. Eleanor and Bob loved to travel. Some of the places they visited include Iran, India, Nepal, Tibet, Galapagos, Turkey, Egypt, Kenya, and later Italy and Spain. Eleanor kept wonderfully detailed travel diaries that are still read and enjoyed today. Most important of all, Bob's focus, in the latter part of his life, was to take care of his loving wife who suffered from dementia and was bedridden for her last 5 years. Bob and Eleanor are survived by their children and spouses, John & Eloise Pound, Anita (Pound) and Craig Miskel, and Ray and Vera Pound. Grandchildren include Adam Pound, Jenny Pound, and Clayton Pound. They have one great grand daughter, Everly Pound. Memorial service to be held May 23 at 11:00 AM at the Mt Diablo Unitarian Church, 55 Eckley Lane, Walnut Creek, CA
