OBITUARY: GRIEF KILLS MRS. BOOTHBY
Grandmother of Little Wilbour M'Court, Who Died, Has Fatal Attack
Daughter of Dead Woman and Mother of Dead Child Almost in Condition of Collapse After Long Journey and Second Terrible Sorrow
Shock to Community.
Grief at the death of her little grandson, Wilbour McCourt, brought on an attack of heart failure that proved fatal to Mrs. W. F. Boothby last evening at 9:15 o'clock.
The child, who was the son of United States District Attorney John McCourt, died in Denver on Tuesday, having been taken ill from spinal meningitis while on the train as his parents were returning from a visit in the east.
The remains arrived in the city yesterday at 1 o'clock, and were to have been buried from the Boothby home this afternoon but with the death of the grandmother a double funeral will be held on Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock in the Presbyterian church. Mrs. Boothby had previously been subject to attacks of heart failure but not seriously.
She was a woman of much strength of character and a loyal Christian, being a charter member of the Presbyterian church. Besides a large circle of friends to whom the announcement of her death will come as a great shock, she is survived by her husband, W. F. Boothby, one son, Charles of Portland, and a daughter, Veva, the wife of United States Deputy District Prosecuting Attorney John McCourt of Portland. Charles Boothby had accompanied the funeral party from Portland with [...missing ...] McCourt, so that all the family were at the home when the second terrible blow fell, which has almost prostrated them.
Mrs. McCourt, the daughter of the dead woman and the mother of the little boy, is almost in a state of collapse. Mrs. Boothby was 68 years of age on March 21 of this year. She was born in Galisheel, Scotland, coming to Salem in 1862, where she has since resided.
