NOTE Oscar B. Chapman registered for the draft in Marion Co, Oregon in 1918. He gave his birthdate as 25 Dec 1882 and his nearest relative as his wife Mabel. He was undoubtedly the Oscar B. Chapman who died 9 Dec 1962 at Springfield, Greene Co, Missouri. His death certificate gives birthdate as 25 Dec 1882 and occupation as baker, but says he was born near St Joseph, Missouri.

DISCREPANCY Mabel’s obituary names a niece Mabel Fenner, but the census show the elder Mabel was an only child.

OBITUARY: 

Mrs Mabel Chapman, 83, of 7091 Dunsmere St SE, died Friday at her home. Born in Kansas, she was brought across the plains by covered wagon in 1883 at the age of one. The family lived in Idaho until moving in 1913 to the Waldo Hills area southeast of Salem. She had lived in the Salem area since then. Her father, Perry Taylor, had crossed the plains three times, using the same covered wagon and the same team of horses. Survivors include several nieces and nephews, including Mrs Mabel Fenner of Philomath. [line of type missing] am at Virgil T. Golden mortuary, Rev W. Harold Lyman officiating. Burial will be in Pioneer cemetery.
