OBITUARY: Joseph Raleigh Churchill passed away at the Salem Hospital Sunday, July 26, 1903, at 1:45 P.M., aged 23 years and 23 days.
Mr. Churchill was born in North Yamhill July 3, 1880.
With the exception of one year, when he served as fireman on the Great Northern trains, in Easter Washington, his life has been spent in Salem, where he was well and favorably known as a young man of steady and industrious habits, and sterling moral character. He was a member of the Y. M. C. A., the Maccabees and the Modern Woodmen. He was also a member of the Salem band, and was in his place with the boys up to the day of his illness. He served faithfully in the fire departent, and for the last three years has worked for Mr. Otto Wilson, where he will be sadly missed, as he was a good workman, and always at his post of duty. He leaves a father, mother, one brother and many relatives to mourn his loss. The funeral will be conducted by Rev. Kechum, at the residence of Geo. F. Smith, No. 307 Liberty street, on Thursday, at 2 p.m. The Maccabees will take charge of the interment.
Interment will be had in the Odd Fellows' cemetery.
